Venture Capital / Private Equity Partnership Conference

Hong Kong-Survival And Resilience

22 September , 2003(Monday)

The Annual Venture Capital/Private Equity Partnership Conference, organised by the Hong Kong Venture Capital Association, in association with the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, has grown in size and scope over the past 4 years. It has become a major event in the industry's calendar. The conference targets investors, corporations and growing businesses. The gathering in 2002 has drawn more than 340 participants drawn from a wide range of organisations and geographies including Hong Kong, US, Europe, PRC, Taiwan, Singapore and other Asian countries.

The turmoil of 2002/3, brought on by the Middle East war and unforseen SARS outbreak, prolonged the period of weak global business spending and investments. Yet many firms have survived, reinventing themselves with new skills founded on restructurings and buyouts, continued opportunities and confidence in the China market, and with experience that comes from living through tough times. The venture capital/private equity/buyout industry is now better placed to service its investors with a maturity borne out of adversity - a resilience which will be demonstrated by longer term strategies and a commitment to value creation.

The aim of this year's conference is to further develop the theme on how private equity can play a productive role particularly in the face of uncertainties in the global economy, to revaluate the essential elements of building businesses and to add value to businesses in positioning for a rebound in the economy.
