Charlotte Robins and Tess Fang, partners from international law firm Allen & Overy, shared best practices and tips at a webinar covering director’s duties and obligations held on November 21, 2023. Among the many issues the speaker’s addressed were common types of directors’ breaches and violations, as well as recent developments and trends in fund governance and regulation in Hong Kong .

The HKVCA hosted its 2nd annual PE Leadership Forum on November 7, 2023. The half-day event was held in person at the China Club and attracted close to 140 senior industry professionals. Many of the attendees were drawn from the ranks of CFOs, COOs, general counsels, tax advisors, and other key decision makers from leading PE and VC firms.

This year’s Leadership Forum featured a number of insightful panel discussions on critical operational topics, including risk management, LP communications, legal considerations, and tax updates. The HKVCA Young Professionals Mixer returned on October 26, 2023, bringing together the next generation of private capital talent in Hong Kong for an evening of networking. Held at the Bankers Club in Central, the event drew over 90 attendees despite the dampened economic environment.

Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres fueled connections as rising stars across private equity, venture capital, investment banking, law, and related fields shared experiences and formed new bonds. Attendees praised the relaxed atmosphere and opportunity to meet like-minded peers.

The HKVCA is committed to engaging and empowering younger professionals. Events like this mixer are invaluable for nurturing talent, facilitating knowledge transfer between veterans and newcomers, and strengthening Hong Kong’s position as a global financial hub.

The HKVCA hosted a timely luncheon talk focused on navigating challenging private equity and M&A deals in Asia on Oct 19, 2023. Close to 60 senior members attended in-person for the opportunity to learn from experts at Clifford Chance.

Speakers Bryan Koo, Thomas Walsh, Julie Fu, and Dianna Shao examined case studies showing how investors can respond when investments become more difficult than expected. They discussed practical strategies within different Asian jurisdictions, including securing assets and freezing funds when issues arise post-deal.

The HKVCA hosted an insightful Luncheon Talk by Henry Wadsworth and Adam Gabrielsen of Dynamo Software. They discussed key findings from Dynamo’s Frontline Insight Report on FinTech adoption trends among leading LPs and allocators.

The presentation focused on strategic considerations around selecting FinTech platforms to unlock efficiencies and alpha in alternatives. Wadsworth and Gabrielsen highlighted innovative Dynamo product features enabling enhanced automation, data centralization, and value creation across the investment lifecycle.

The HKVCA hosted a Luncheon Talk presented by Will Yea, Principal at Coller Capital, discussing the latest trends that are shaping Asian and Chinese private equity markets. Yea provided an informative overview focused on deal flow, fundraising, exits, and other key developments referenced from Coller’s Global Private Equity Barometer Summer 2023 report.

Close to 50 industry players attended this in-person event for the opportunity to gain market-leading insights and the latest outlook for the region’s private equity landscape.
